Dental for Kids
StandUp Blue Springs, originally formed as Blue Springs WellLink, launched Dental for Kids in July 2003 after learning from school officials and the county health department that thousands of children in Blue Springs do not get to the dentist. These children are either uninsured, or they are covered by Medicaid or MC+, which are accepted by very few dentists in Eastern Jackson County. They are the children of the working poor and in some cases, the homeless. Dental for Kids provides free dental care to qualifying children who attend school in the Blue Springs School District. Referrals are made through the schools (usually the school nurse or principal), or through social services agencies. We also help students who live in Blue Springs and are of pre-school age, home schooled, or attend private school, but who are unable to afford dental care.
Without proper dental care, children risk significant health problems later in life, including heart attack, stroke and diabetes. Our work – supported entirely by private donations – makes a real difference in the life of children and their families. We are so grateful to the following dentists and dental specialists who donate their time to provide free treatment to the children enrolled in Dental for Kids:
